This initiative reflects the company’s unwavering commitment to offering technological and innovative solutions for sustainable development.
Abengoa (MCE: ABG.B), the company that applies innovative technology solutions for sustainability in the energy and environment sectors, has designed a total of 170 actions in each of its business areas to reduce the volume of CO2 emissions in 2013. Thanks to these actions, emissions will be reduced by at least 366,000 tCO2 this year.
Some of the most important initiatives that Abengoa has implemented under this action plan are capturing CO2 emitted during the fermentation process in various bioethanol plants, as well as optimizing its facilities in order to reduce their consumption of natural gas and electricity, improving efficiency and increasing energy savings.
Abengoa has increased the number of actions from 123 in 2012 to 170 in 2013.
Since creating its greenhouse gas inventory, Abengoa has promoted the design of initiatives to reduce emissions across all of its activity areas and businesses. In order to further strengthen the company’s commitment to climate change, Abengoa has designed targeted actions adapted to the requirements of the ISO 14064-1 standard.
As a result of its work in the field of sustainability, in March Abengoa won the Spanish edition of the European Business Award for the Environment in the ‘Business Management for Sustainable Development’ category, for its system for managing greenhouse gases emissions and reduction plans that the company began to implement in 2008.
This initiative is helping to consolidate Abengoa’s leadership position in developing innovative technology solutions for sustainable development, making it a benchmark in the field of environmental sustainability as well as for CO2 emissions reduction plans.
