BrightSource Energy, Inc., a leading concentrating solar thermal technology company, has named Steven Goers as senior vice president of operations, effective immediately.
Goers brings more than 30 years of experience in power plant engineering and management, and international power development to his role at BrightSource.
“We’re excited to have Steven join and help BrightSource globally deploy our solar tower technology,” said John Woolard, president and CEO of BrightSource Energy. “Steven brings broad-based experience in international power development and operations to our leadership team that will be vital to accomplishing our goals.”
“BrightSource is well positioned to meet the growing global demand for clean and reliable energy with its solar thermal technology,” said Steven Goers, senior vice president of operations for BrightSource. “I’m thrilled to be joining BrightSource’s world-class team and look forward to further optimizing BrightSource’s operations in markets around the globe.”
Concentrating solar thermal technology, when combined with thermal energy storage, is a dispatchable source of renewable energy and can provide valuable grid flexibility services. This includes the ability to shift energy in time and provide both firm capacity and ancillary services.
As energy markets around the globe increase their use of variable-generation renewable sources such as wind and photovoltaics, this flexibility helps maintain grid reliability while minimizing costs for consumers.
Prior to joining BrightSource, Goers served as general manager of IPP development and power plant O&M for ITOCHU Corporation primarily developing a 330 MW geothermal project in Indonesia and Asia region O&M opportunities for NAES, a wholly owned subsidiary of ITOCHU.
He previously served as vice president of O&M for First Gen Corporation, a leading clean and renewable energy company in the Philippines, and senior division director of North American Energy Services. He has also served as vice president of international power operations for El Paso Energy Inc., and held management roles at Intergen Energy Inc. and LG&E Power Operating Services. Goers holds a bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
