With increasing technological maturity comes the solar thermal power generation, concentrated solar power (CSP) increasing interest in Brazil.

In some regions of the North East very good irradiation conditions are met. For this reason, the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) has awarded a contract to the research institution (CEPEL) state energy holding company Eletrobras to erect there a first 1-MWe CSP pilot plant.

Other leading energy companies in Brazil are showing interest in CSP, submitting initial requests for sector research funding, eg Petrobras for a 3 MWe power tower.

The regional energy company in the Northeast (CHESF), subsidiary of the holding company Eletrobras wants to go one step further and build a first commercial scale plant. By the Brazilian Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) is of great interest to test the potential of CSP technologies.
