The General Meeting of the Spanish Association for the Promotion of the Solar Thermal Industry (Protermosolar), has re-elected unanimously president of Protermosolar for a period of two years. Luis Crespo, who from 2008 to 2016 served as general secretary, was elected president of Protermosolar in 2016.

Luis Crespo is a PhD in Aeronautical Engineering and Sociologist and began his professional career in 1975 in the Space division of CASA, in which he promoted the creation of the Department of Solar Energy. After working for CASA, he worked in Interatom / Siemens, in the design and construction of the CRS project of the AIE in Almería and in ASINEL in Spanish-German concentrayed solar power and wind projects. He was also director of the Instituto de Energías Renovables of CIEMAT, deputy general director of CDTI and general director of AENTEC. Between 1992 and 2008 he was director of a regional private equity venture.

Luis Crespo has played an important role in the development of solar thermal technology in Spain. Since 2011, he combines his functions in Protermosolar with the presidency of the Euro-Mediterranean association of the solar thermal industry, ESTELA, being also a professor in the UPM.

Protermosolar is the association that represents the Spanish sector of the tConcentrated Solar Power industry and is made up of 50 members. The solar thermal technology, in which Spain is a leader at the international level, has recently entered the world of renewable energies with strength and is currently the one with the greatest growth potential due to its manageability and storage capacity, due to its high creation of local employment and its reduction of costs. The installed capacity in Spain is 2,304 MW and Spanish companies are present in the vast majority of the plants that are built abroad.
