Álvaro Merino, Research Manager at the National Society of Mining (SONAMI), will share a presentation on the mining landscape in Chile in front of the international concentrated solar power industry in ChileSol 2014 (27 & 28 May, Santiago de Chile).

On Tuesday 27th of May, the National Society of Mining will join the international and solar industry at the 2nd Chilean Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (ChileSol 2014). Álvaro Merino, SONAMI´s Research Manager, will give a presentation aimed at mapping out the development of mining in Chile.

All the challenges that the most important sector in Chile faces will be outlined by Merino, including energy issues. SONAMI´s contribution in the conference is set to provide the solar sector a clear understanding of the opportunities there are to meet the energy demands from the mining sector.

Currently, Chile has one mine supported by a CSP application. A 10 MWth parabolic through CSP plant provides Minera El Tesoro with heat for internal mining processes. This was developed by Abengoa Solar, and it has been in operation since 2012.

Álavaro Merino will be joined by other key players in the mining scene in Chile such Adolfo López from the Chilean Copper Commission. All leading developers from the CSP industry will be present such as Abengoa, SolarReserve, and BrightSource Energy.
