Over 200 MW of CSP projects with storage have already been awarded under the Government REIPPP Programme, and more is set to follow.
On Wednesday 10th December representatives from Eskom and Stellenbosch University will be taking part in a CSP Today webinar to discuss the possibilities for CSP with storage as a long term solution in alleviating the South African power crisis.
Now that Eskom has upgraded its load shedding status to stage 3 South Africa is asking for answers about how Eskom is going to address its power supply deficit. This issue has been caused by a severe power deficit that experts will be discussing CSP with storage as a potential future baseload solution.
Over 200 MW of CSP projects with storage have already been awarded under the Government REIPPP Programme, and more is set to follow. A lack of transmission infrastructure has caused rumours about delays which may affect future projects.
The webinar is set to discuss how CSP can be competitive with other baseload solutions in the South African energy mix, and what role CSP can have in strengthening the South African grid.
The CSP Today webinar will be contributed to by Bernard Magoro, Grid Code Secretariat at Eskom and Professor Frank Dinter, Chairman of the Solar Thermal Energy Research Group (STERG) at Stellenbosch University.
