Between September 20 and 23, SENER and Torresol Energy will participate in the international conference of the concentrated solar power sector (CSP) SolarPACES 2011, Concentrated Solar Power and Chemical Energy Systems. This 2011 edition is organized by the CIEMAT, an Organism of the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

In this year’s conference, which will be held in Granada (Spain), SENER will be giving technical lectures about CSP technology and presenting the following technical papers: “SENERtrough-1 collector: commercial operation experience, continuous loop monitoring at Extresol-1 plant and technology deployment”; “Commissioning and operation of commercial surrounding heliostat fields for maximum but safe production”; “Design of heliostats under extreme and fatigue wind loads”; “Molten salt thermal storage: a proven solution to increase plant dispatchability. Experience in Gemasolar tower plant”; and “HECTOR – Heliostat cleaning team-oriented robot”. For its part, Torresol Energy will present the technical papers “Gemasolar, the first tower thermosolar commercial plant with molten salt storage system”, “CSP plants production optimization”, and “Operator training simulator of a solar parabolic through thermosolar plant”. The management of Torresol Energy will also participate as coauthor in other papers and the company will have a stand at the event.

Both companies will be unveiling some technological advances to professionals of the international thermosolar industry for the first time: from SENER’s heliostat cleaning system to the analysis of the innovative Gemasolar plant’s operation following its first months of commercial operation.

As well as its high-profile presence at this event, considered the leading international technological conference of the CSP sector, it should be mentioned that Torresol Energy will also participate, between 17 and 20 October, in the Solar Power International meeting, organized in Dallas, Texas. The company’s U.S. delegation will be present at this international show, the biggest of North America in solar energy, to introduce its future projects to the American market.

With projects such as Gemasolar, SENER continues to lead the market of CSP technology, both with its own developments via Torresol Energy and with technology applied in plants for other customers. Currently, SENER is the leader in the development of technology for thermosolar plants and in engineering, construction and commissioning services for these projects. Its portfolio of projects for different customers already includes more than 20 thermosolar plants. Many of these plants, both with parabolic trough and central tower receiver technology, incorporate a molten salt storage system using SENER technology. Seven of them are already in commercial operation, including the first power plant to apply the thermal storage system in a configuration with a central tower and an array of heliostats, Gemasolar. SENER also manufactures and commercializes several of its solar developments, such as the heliostats’ drives and cleaning systems.
