South Africa’s government plans to build a complex of solar power plants and manufacturing facilities in the Northern Cape, which enjoys more hours of sunshine per year than any other part of the country.
Group Five’s stock price rose four per cent on the news, according to local media, to ZAR27.65 ($4.09) per share. The company later issued a statement emphasising that the project had yet to be confirmed and depended on the selection process and the progress of the Renewable Energy Feed-In Tariffs (REFIT). ‘The project and the REFIT process are at an early stage,’ it said.
