Enel Green Power is participating in two subsequent events to promote development in the Mediterranean: the Dii Desert Energy Conference, held on November 7th. in Berlin, will be followed by the Economic and Financial Forum for the Mediterranean. Esteemed representatives of 35 countries who will attend the latter, to be held in Milan on November 12th. and 13th., will come from national and internationalgovernments and institutions, companies, political and civil personalities of the Euro-Mediterranean areas.
Enel Green Power CEO Francesco Starace attended both events, and this confirms the Group’s commitment to the development of renewables in the Mediterranean area.
The Berlin conference stressed the positive effects of the Desertec project on the social-economic project, especially regarding the involvement of local populations in the desert areas of North Africa and the Middle East.
Indeed, over the next few years energy consumption will hugely increase on the shores of the Mediterranean, especially in North African countries, where presently more than 170 million people. This scenario opens highly appealing perspectives for the development of cooperation policies and shows extraordinary opportunities for large-scale projects in the energy field, which could cover a significant portion of the local energy demand.
Besides being a founding partner of Desertec Industrial Initiative, EGP is also a founder ofRes4Med, which stands for Renewable Energy Solutions for the Mediterranean, a platform that reunites Italian institutional and research bodies, as well as industries such as Enel Green Power, which performs a guiding function. The initiative aims at starting a dialogue on maters like energy supply security, growth of the energy demand, enhancing commercial relations between producing and consuming countries.
