Mr Charles Walimbwa, the LC5 chairman for Manafwa District, also the brain behind the project, said each project will generate 50 MW of solar energy to be used in industrial development of rural areas.
The Energy Ministry is considering a 350MW Solar-Thermal Electricity project under Plan for Reconstruction and Development Programme (PRDP) to benefit seven locations in northern and eastern Uganda.
PRDP Principal Transmission Engineer Alex Takahashi said the project is targeting power generation, transmission, distribution and smart management.
Eng. Takahashi was with technicians on feasibility study of the projects on the land so far secured by the district local governments in Lamwo, Abim and Manafwa districts on Saturday.
Documents seen by this newspaper dated October 25, 2010, reveal that the US Trade and Development Agency, will through PRDP, also fund waste-to-energy electricity generation in Kampala and install 50MW with clean water treatment in Busoga sub-region.
"Within one year, the government notes that the implementation of the expansion of up to 350MW to be in tandem with the anticipated growth in demand in each of the seven areas," Eng. Takahashi said.
He said the Energy Ministry has already selected seven sites in Abim for Karamoja sub-region, Butaleja for Bukedi sub-region, Manafwa for Mt Elgon sub-region, Lamwo for Acholi sub-regiion, Katakwi for Teso sub-region, Oyam for Lango sub-region and Pakwach for West Nile sub-region to benefit from the project.
Mr Charles Walimbwa, the LC5 chairman for Manafwa District, also the brain behind the project, said each project will generate 50 MW of solar energy to be used in industrial development of rural areas.
"We are set and what remains is signing a Memorandum of Understanding with the government and sending it to the US agency," Mr Walimbwa said.
