World’s tallest solar tower nears completion in Negev desert Israel.The construction of an immense solar power station was well underway near the kibbutz of Ashalim in the Negev desert on Tuesday. The plant’s 250-metre tower boasts the title of the tallest tower in the world, and once complete it is set to be the largest energy project in all of Israel. Negev Energy CEO Didi Paz explained that the majority of the plant’s employees are from two local communities; both the Israeli settlement of Ashalim and the Bedouin community of Bir Hadadj. The solar powered thermal station is set to be finished by July next year.
