China to build 100 MW of tower Concentrated Solar Power in Tibet
The project has an overall planned installed capacity of 650MW, including a 100MW thermal storage solar thermal power generation project and a 550MW photovoltaic power generation project. The project will be constructed in two phases, with the first phase having a construction scale of 350MW, including a 100MW thermal storage solar thermal power generation project and a 250MW photovoltaic power generation project, following the “photovoltaic + solar thermal” integrated project development and construction approach.
Location:
China Energy Construction’s 250MW photovoltaic + 100MW solar thermal power generation project is located 7 kilometers southwest of Haoru Village in Dangxiong County, Lhasa City, Tibet Autonomous Region. It is 200 kilometers away from Lhasa City, with an altitude of 4,400 meters.

According to the Tibet Business Daily, during early autumn, the northern Tibetan grasslands received another piece of good news. On the morning of August 30th, the groundbreaking ceremony for the 250MW photovoltaic + 100MW solar thermal power generation project by China Energy Construction in Dangxiong, Lhasa, was held.

At the groundbreaking ceremony, Tuden Peijie, the Secretary of the Dangxiong County Committee, pointed out that Dangxiong County has abundant resources for the development of new energy, such as wind, solar, and geothermal energy. How to use these resources to develop and strengthen the county’s economy, increase the income of the residents, and enhance their sense of well-being has always been a top priority for the Dangxiong County Committee and County Government. The development and construction of new energy projects are important measures for Dangxiong County to actively respond to the national call and vigorously promote the development of clean energy.
China Energy Construction’s 250MW + 100MW solar thermal power generation project in Dangxiong, Lhasa, taking advantage of the investment opportunities brought by Lhasa City’s increased investment promotion efforts, will inject stronger momentum into the new energy industry and further enhance Dangxiong County’s confidence in implementing new energy construction.
Chen Jiping, the General Manager of China Electric Power Engineering, introduced that China Electric Power Engineering is a core subsidiary of China Energy Construction Group.
As one of the earliest companies in China to be involved in the design, investment, and construction of solar thermal projects, China Electric Power Engineering participated in the investment of the Hami 50MW tower solar thermal power generation project, which was one of the first batch of solar thermal power generation demonstration projects approved by the National Energy Administration in 2016.
In the field of solar thermal power generation, China Electric Power Engineering has significant technical advantages and rich construction experience. Solar thermal power generation is a highly stable renewable energy source with significant importance in building a new power system. It has both peak-shaving power supply and energy storage functions, which are in line with the development needs of the Tibet Autonomous Region and the Lhasa region’s power system.
In the past two years, China Electric Power Engineering has been actively involved in integrated solar thermal projects, and it has successively received approvals for the “Aksay 100MW solar thermal + 600MW photovoltaic project,” “Gonghe 100MW solar thermal + 900MW photovoltaic project,” and “Dangxiong 100MW solar thermal + 250MW photovoltaic project.” These projects are of great significance to China Electric Power Engineering’s commitment to building a new power system.
Dangxiong County is located in the northern part of Lhasa City, at the junction of southern and northern Tibet, with abundant new energy resources. It is an important clean energy base planned by Lhasa City. Currently, the feasibility study report, access system review, and land lease procedures for this project have been completed, and on August 21st, the Lhasa Development and Reform Commission issued a filing notice for this project, marking an important milestone for the project. China Electric Power Engineering will comprehensively accelerate the progress of various project tasks and strive to connect the project to the grid as soon as possible.
Shi Dong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and General Manager of Northwest Electric Power Design Institute Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of China Electric Power Engineering and Vice Chairman of the National Solar Thermal Alliance, stated that the total planned investment for this project is approximately 5 billion yuan, with an investment of approximately 3.8 billion yuan for the first phase of construction. The project can create long-term employment for 150 people in the local area. After the project is completed, it will produce 495 million kWh of green electricity annually, saving approximately 116,000 tons of standard coal each year, reducing particulate matter emissions by 5.8 tons, reducing NOx emissions by 57.9 tons, reducing SO2 emissions by 40.5 tons, and reducing CO2 emissions by 104,000 tons. It can effectively reduce atmospheric pollution. This project has significant economic and social benefits and is a flagship demonstration project for “green and clean energy.”
